St Joseph's Catholic Primary School - Corinda

St Joseph's Primary School Corinda The Daughters of Our Lady of the Scared Heart, at the Invitation of Archbishop James Duhig, arrived in Corinda in January 1917 to open yet another Catholic School to cater for the needs of the growing Catholic population in developing residential areas in Brisbane.

Corinda was not as yet a parish in its own right. The Church at that time was served from Goodna.

The Primary School opened on 29 January 1917 with 50 students, most of whom had been traveling relatively long distances to the nearest Catholic School or attending the local State School. On the previous Sunday 28th January, the school was officially blessed and opened by Archbishop Duhig.

In his address to the assembled people he said, I am delighted to find myself associated with the good people of Corinda in the ceremony of dedicating this new school building to the glory of God and the use of Christian education. He went on to liken this latest Catholic school in Corinda to a plant which, he felt certain, watered with the generosity of the good people there, cared for by the Parish Priest, Father Stapleton and the Sisters, would before long grow to a maturity that would make them all feel proud.

During 1993, St Joseph's School entered a new era. Following the withdrawal of the Sisters, its first acting lay principal was appointed in April 1993 followed in January 1994 by the permanent appointment of a lay principal to the school. As we enter the new millennium, we can certainly look back with pride on what has been achieved.

Our school population now stands at 370 and our facilities include, a new administration building and Resource Center, ample playground and sporting facilities, landscaped areas and adventure playgrounds and a parish multi-purpose complex available for use by the school. A hardworking Parents Friends Association has assured that the school lacks for nothing in modern teaching aids as well as providing and ideal communication forum.

During the more than eighty six years since St Joseph's School opened, it has continued to receive God's abundant blessings and we look back with gratitude to the many Sisters of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Scared Heart and the lay teachers who, by their dedication and labors, have helped to shape our school into a place where the school community strives to share in the mission of Jesus to bring love, forgiveness, dignity and salvation to all.

Christ the King Catholic Primary School - Graceville

Christ the King Primary School Graceville. The School crest incorporates the Southern Cross Badge of the Presentation Sisters, who began the school in 1937.

The Presentation Sisters are an extraordinary group of women who devoted their lives to the education of young children. The charisma of the sisters, captured in the school motto Facta non Verba (Deeds not Words), is still evident in the life of Christ the King today.

The school opened on January 25, 1937 with an enrolment of 60. The original facilities comprised three rooms flanked on the eastern side by a veranda costing 750 pounds to erect. Four sisters, Mother Ursula, Mother Patrick, Sister Conleth and Sister Agnes, founded the community.

In 1966 the original building was demolished and replaced with a modern complex costing $79,000. The new school opened with an enrolment of 235. The first lay principal began in 1980 with the sisters leaving the school during the 1990's. Further development took place during the 1980's and early 1990's and the community established a redevelopment master plan in 2000. A major refurbishment will proceed in stages during 2002, 2003 and 2004 to address this master plan.

Christ the King continues to operate as a quality single-stream school where every teacher knows every child by name. Our School Emblem - For Life, Love, Learning The school emblem and motto were developed in recent years to give a modern symbol to the mission of our school.

The emblem is an expression of the School Mission Statement. The central figure represents the adult partners; teachers, parents and support staff, who are committed to the educational, personal and spiritual growth of each child at Christ the King. The highlighted hearts symbolise the spirit of love and care that permeate the school's approach to the education of our students.

Our Motto, For Life, Love and Learning, is inseparable from the emblem as it articulates our school goals. These goals are: To develop in each child the thirst and skills for lifelong learning; By our actions, to enable children to experience God's love; To provide quality learning outcomes for each child.
